Maiorga Pillory
Maiorga Pillory
Built in the parish that gives it its name, one of the old villages belonging to the Coutos de Alcobaça since 1313.
The Maiorga Pillory would only be built later, probably after the new charter granted by King D. Manuel I in 1514.
The pillories as symbols of power and justice, consecrate the villages where they are built and, at the same time, become an element of the identity of these same localities.
The safeguarding and conservation of Maiorga Pillory is the certainty of the heritage that it represents for the local community and at the same time represents the importance that it attaches to the history of its land.
The classification of this monument in Maiorga as a Property of Public Interest in 1933 was also a way of certifying the importance of the monument.
