The traditions of this festive season are celebrated with the proper protocol all over the country and in Alcobaça the Easter season is also one of the highlights in terms of festivities.
Without the frenzy of the bathing season, São Martinho do Porto is the main stage for Easter activities in Alcobaça.
With a special program promoted in collaboration between the Alcobaça City Council, the São Martinho do Porto Parish Council and the Casa da Cultura José Bento da Silva.
The ceremonies are complemented with cultural events that you will not want to miss a second.

Recreation of the 19th Century Market
May
If all the reasons are good to visit the Alcobaça Monastery, in May those good reasons have yet another ally, which is the recreation of the 19th century market that takes place next to the Monastery and which aims to bring to the present day the 19th century environment.
As in many other places around the country (as Caldas da Rainha it is still a daily practice) in the main square of the land, farmers and artisans gathered to sell the products of their work, ranging from bread, to fruit , vegetables, sausages, olive oil, wine, honey among many other things.
In addition to selling local products, you can also count on lots of animation and fun.
Books & Movies
May / June
In 2014 Alcobaça bet on the promotion of the art of books and films. The primary objective is to make these two forms of cultural expression circular and reach everyone.
The cultural importance of Alcobaça goes back to its origins and has in the Monastery its main vehicle for transmitting this culture over the centuries.
The BOOKS & MOVIES event aims to pay homage to this cultural legacy and contribute to increase the levels of cultural education in communities, trying to make it reach everyone.
Cister Music
June / July
CISTER MÚSICA is the Alcobaça music festival that arose in 1991 and which since then has offered countless experiences where the main guest is naturally classical music.
Since 2002, the festival has had the collaboration of the Alcobaça Music Academy in the organization, certified by its quality and its ability to expand its popularity to seduce more and more music enthusiasts and curators to Alcobaça.
Given its longevity and the quality of the proposals promoted by CISTER MÚSICA, it has established itself as one of the most significant musical events in the Silver Coast, being a unique opportunity to visit Alcobaça.
Aljubarrota Medieval
August
Aljubarrota is a small but large land that played a decisive role in the history of Portugal.
In the distant 14th century, more specifically on August 14, 1385, nearby, in the field of S. Jorge, the famous Battle took place de Aljubarrota who brought the Portuguese armies face to face, led by D. Nuno Álvares Pereira and the future king D. João I against the Castilian army, led by D. Juan I of Castile.
In order to celebrate the day of victory over the Spaniards and to celebrate Aljubarrota, the parish carries out the ALJUBARROTA MEDIEVAL which promotes a set of cultural proposals that include theater, jugglers, music with a view to a historical recreation.
With scenarios and costumes built to rigor and where there will be plenty of gastronomic products typical of these events such as, among others, the liqueurs, jams or bread of D. Brites de Almeida, the famous Padeira de Aljubarrota whose legend of his participation in the Battle of Aljubarrota is in itself a reason to visit this party.
São Bernardo Feast
August
Precisely from medieval times, when the Monastery was built, which takes place in August at the Feira de São Bernardo.
As is typical in this type of event, you can count on handicrafts, exhibitions, equestrian events, car and cycling events, in addition to the always appetizing snacks, sweets and music in a combination that can only have one result, lots of fun.
São Simão Feast
October / November
Since the beginning of the 20th century, the São Simão Feast has been held in Alcobaça, being already an element of the local cultural identity.
The event celebrates two religious dates, in the case of São Simão (28 October) and All Saints Day (1 November).
Centered on the show of local flavors, the Feira de São Simão has a wide range of gastronomic products, especially dried fruits.
International Exhibition of Conventual Sweets and Liqueurs

One of the most popular and tasty events in Alcobaça is the International Exhibition of Conventual Sweets and Liqueurs, promoted since 1999.
Taking into account the rich cultural heritage that is the legacy left by the Cistercian monks has its high point in conventual sweets and liqueurs.
The Alcobaça City Council promotes this event with the aim of promoting the products but above all it aims to its safeguarding as an element of local identity and legacy of the Cistercian Order.
Held inside the Monastery of Alcobaça, it is a case of saying that the useful and the pleasant join together, thus being able to combine the unique heritage with the UNESCO seal that is the monastery, with the delicious conventual proposals.
New Years Eve

Regardless of where we are, New Year’s Eve is always a cause for celebration and celebration.
