The Cine-Teatro in Alcobaça, whose project was designed by the famous Swiss architect Ernesto Korrodi, was inaugurated on December 18, 1944.
The building combines Art Nouveau and Art Deco and for that reason alone it deserves you to visit it, deserving that you also focus your attention on the exceptional sculptural panel in high relief that is on the main facade of the building.
After a few years operating under the ownership of a cinema distributor, the Cine-Teatro in Alcobaça underwent some renovation works that allowed the building to be kept up-to-date with the most modern of its kind and to be able to continue to perform its usual role.
The Cine-theater was opened again in 2004, and in 2010 it was renamed Alcobaça João d’Oliva Monteiro’s Cine-theater, a tribute to one of the greatest dynamizers and investors in this space when it opened in 1944.
Since then, there have been around 1000 shows in the most varied genres and many more spectators from different places.
