Monographic Museum of Bárrio
Monographic Museum of Bárrio
The Monographic Museum of Bárrio is located in the Junta de Freguesia do Bárrio.
Was inaugurated on November 8, 1981 and addresses the diversity of activities of the inhabitants of this parish, ranging from agriculture, livestock or fishing.
The approach to these themes is the guarantee of a tribute from the space to the identity and the local heritage, being therefore an important space to understand and socio-economic evolution of Bárrio.
In addition to these themes, the Museum also presents in its collection an approach to Vila Romana de Parreitas (roman village), testimony to the passage of Roman civilization through the area, the exhibition and interpretive nucleus “Os Romanos em Alcobaça“.
The discovery of the passage of the Romans is due to the archaeological excavations and the various studies that that village was being targeted from the 80s of the last century and the result of this archaeological work can be known and interpreted in this museum space.
Museum of Bárrio therefore functions as an Information and Documentation Center in Vila Romana, which due to its importance and historical richness make this space an essential place to better understand the passage of the Romans through this area of the Iberian Peninsula.
