The Faience Museum of Alcobaça “Maria do Céu and Luís Pereira de Sampaio” is installed in the Conventual Gallery and was inaugurated in 2013, as a celebration of the Gallery’s 20th anniversary but also to honor Maria do Céu and Luís Pereira de Sampaio.
With the collection of more than a thousand pieces, the Museum traces the history of this Alcobacense ceramic art from 1875 to the present.
This being a collection of the Pereira Sampaio Family, pieces from various local producers such as the José dos Reis Faience Factory, Olaria de Alcobaça, Vestal, Estatuária Artística de Alcobaça, Raul da Bernarda, Elias and Paiva, Pereiras, Mário Tanqueiro, Cerâmica São Bernardo, Pombo Almeida e Ribeiro, Faiança Neves and Arfai / IGM.
“Maria do Céu and Luís Pereira de Sampaio” serves as yet another important space for the interpretation, dissemination and promotion of ceramics produced in the region that you can and should complement with visits to other spaces where ceramics deserve such prominence. such as the Raul da Bernarda Museum, also in Alcobaça, the Ceramics Museum, the José Malhoa Museum and the Bordallo Pinheiro Faience Factory, these are very close by in Caldas da Rainha.
