Alcobaça Wine Museum

The Wine Museum in Alcobaça is installed in the old cellar built in 1874 by José Raposo de Magalhães, being a place full of history.

Today the Museum presents a collection of great historical and patrimonial value composed of an important collection of 8500 pieces that document oenology, ethnology, traditional technology, industrial archeology and the graphic, plastic and decorative arts.

The Museum is therefore a place with various reasons of interest, addressing different themes all linked to the history of Alcobaça and having as a link between all of them the wine production and the old complex built by that illustrious Alcobacense.

Raul da Bernarda Museum

Inaugurated in 2000, the Raul da Bernarda Museum in Alcobaça discusses the history of the largest and oldest representative of the Faience of Alcobaça, the Raúl da Bernarda & Filhos, Lda.

The factory was founded in 1875 by José dos Reis and the property was initially transferred to Manuel Ferreira da Bernarda in 1900 and later, in the late 1920s, to his son Raul da Bernarda.

Looking back on the life of the company, the Museum seeks to exhibit an exemplary collection of the work that the factory developed and, at the same time, to pay a fair tribute to the family that contributed decisively to giving it dynamics and popularity.

The museological nucleus of the Museum is divided into two thematic exhibitions: on the one hand “The Costumes of Rancho do Alcoa, alluding to Alcobaça crockery” and on the other hand, the “Raul da Bernarda Ceramics Collection”.

Faience Museum of Alcobaça

The Faience Museum of Alcobaça “Maria do Céu and Luís Pereira de Sampaio” is installed in the Conventual Gallery and was inaugurated in 2013, as a celebration of the Gallery’s 20th anniversary but also to honor Maria do Céu and Luís Pereira de Sampaio.

With the collection of more than a thousand pieces, the Museum traces the history of this Alcobacense ceramic art from 1875 to the present.

This being a collection of the Pereira Sampaio Family, pieces from various local producers such as the José dos Reis Faience Factory, Olaria de Alcobaça, Vestal, Estatuária Artística de Alcobaça, Raul da Bernarda, Elias and Paiva, Pereiras, Mário Tanqueiro, Cerâmica São Bernardo, Pombo Almeida e Ribeiro, Faiança Neves and Arfai / IGM.

Monographic Museum of Bárrio

The Monographic Museum of Bárrio is located in the Junta de Freguesia do Bárrio.

Was inaugurated on November 8, 1981 and addresses the diversity of activities of the inhabitants of this parish, ranging from agriculture, livestock or fishing.

The approach to these themes is the guarantee of a tribute from the space to the identity and the local heritage, being therefore an important space to understand and socio-economic evolution of Bárrio.

In addition to these themes, the Museum also presents in its collection an approach to Vila Romana de Parreitas (roman village), testimony to the passage of Roman civilization through the area, the exhibition and interpretive nucleus “Os Romanos em Alcobaça“.

The discovery of the passage of the Romans is due to the archaeological excavations and the various studies that that village was being targeted from the 80s of the last century and the result of this archaeological work can be known and interpreted in this museum space.

Museum of Bárrio therefore functions as an Information and Documentation Center in Vila Romana, which due to its importance and historical richness make this space an essential place to better understand the passage of the Romans through this area of ​​the Iberian Peninsula.

Atlantis Visit Center

The Atlantis Visit Center, emerged from the importance of the work of manufacturing the crystal, an industrial and museum space that takes advantage of the glass manufacturing traditions of the Marinha Grande area, more specifically related to the company Atlantis.

At the same time, the Visit Center allows all those interested in the theme of glass manufacturing to get to know the entire production process and at the same time get to know the history of one of the most important crystal producers in Portugal.

Founded in 1945, which belongs to the currently Grupo Vista Alegre Atlantis and which has gained prestige and fame around the world.

The Visit Center offers visits in the scope of industrial tourism to its Factory, where it is possible to contact directly with the industrial process, complementing it with a visit to the Museum and where the focus is on historical content.
